A study published last week in the Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology finds that children who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) are likely to have other health issues including anxiety, heightened sensivity to light, sound, or textures, as well as chronic gastrointestinal issues. The study, conducted by Assistant Professor of Health Psychology, Michah Mazurek, examined health issues among 2,973 children and adolescents with ASD.? Nearly 25% of these suffer from GI problems, and those with GI problems were more likely to experience sensory and anxiety problems.? This is the first study to examine these relationships with children on the autism spectrum.
