MS Windows Live Essentials for Vista

Hi everyone, got another problem :-)
On my laptop running Visa HP SP2 I have some of the 'Essentials' programmes installed. One of them, 'Writer' is causing no end of problems in that it ceased working some time ago, so I tried to uninstall it and then reinstall it. Of course, WLE is a package, so you have to play with the whole package to install/uninstall/repair etc.
1. I used 'Programmes' in control panel to uninstall, but this left no end of trash behind in the registry so I then after reinstalling I ran the Revo uninstaller and it found 580 registry items that were associated with Writer, which I uninstalled on the 2nd attempt.
2. I cannot now install or uninstall this program in either control panel or Revo as it does not appear to exist.
3. Now I attempted to download and install again, but it will not install as it says a version is still running on my computer. If I look in C\program\writer, there is a whole folder full of files.
4. I would guess that the Revo unistall of all those registry files went a step to far.

I do have a back-up of them, but suspect that will not help. Really what I wish to do is to clean out all traces of the 'Writer' software.

Any suggestions ??

PS I would also like to get rid of Messenger as that is no longer supported by MS and I don't use it now anyway.
