Smartphones now tap into these health devices, turning our phones into heart monitors and cancer screeners, all with the goal of helping us live longer, healthier lives.

You may not be familiar with them by name, but Azumio is one of a number of young startups tapping into this hot trend, leveraging smart mobile technology to get us making better and more informed health decisions. Thanks to the popularity of its biofeedback apps like Instant Heart Rate, Azumio has attracted 20 million downloads of its iOS and Android apps in less than two years. And today, the Palo Alto-based company is adding to that total and beginning to round out its product set by scooping up SkyHealth, the creators of Fitness Buddy, the top-ranked paid health app on iTunes.

While the terms of the acquisition were not disclosed, the eight-old SkyHealth has seen 5 million downloads thanks largely to Fitness Buddy and Glucose Buddy, its $1 fitness and diabetes trackers. As a result of this and the fact that SkyHealth was one of the early movers in health development for iOS, the startup has been able to bootstrap its way to profitability.

Azumio, on the other hand, chose to go the venture route, raising $2.5 million from Founders Fund, Accel and Felicis (to name a few) last year. The founders tell us that the deal was a combination of cash and equity, and we?ve been able to learn from other sources that in fact the deal leaned more towards equity, as this war more of an acqui-hire, with SkyHealth founder and CEO Tom Xu joining Azumio as a partner and head of product development, along with the startup?s three main developers.

For Azumio, the acquisition more than doubles its product portfolio, bringing SkyHealth?s 15 health and fitness apps to its platform, while SkyHealth now has access to a larger audience and more resources as part of the Azumio team. But, really, both teams said that they share a similar vision, and joining forces gives them a better shot at making that happen. The team wants to create a mobile health and fitness platform that gives users a complete profile of their health, using each piece in the team?s collective product suite.

In the next few weeks, the team (now at 13 people) plans to launch a fitness dashboard, which will take readings for each of their applications in an effort to give users a more complete report on their health. With SkyHealth?s additions, Azumio?s apps now span heart, stress, and sleep monitoring to fitness and glucose tracking. If Azumio opens that dashboard up to aggregate data from other health devices and apps as well, it could really be a game changer.

Katherine Jackson, Reported Missing, Believed By Authorities To Be Safe In Arizona

LOS ANGELES ? Authorities said Sunday they believe Katherine Jackson, the mother of Michael Jackson and the guardian of his three minor children, is safe in Arizona with family members after she was reported missing.

The disclosure came after another concerned family member officially reported her missing Saturday night amid a dispute over the estate of her superstar son.

A person familiar with Katherine Jackson's whereabouts said she is with her daughter Rebbie in Arizona and following a doctor's orders to rest. The person was not authorized to speak publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

The 82-year-old Jackson family matriarch was reported missing by a relative on Saturday night. Sheriff's officials later said they believe she is in Arizona with a relative, but they were still trying to establish contact with her.

Katherine Jackson's whereabouts caused concern for some family members in recent days, and her granddaughter Paris Jackson issued a frantic plea on Twitter early Sunday.

"I haven't spoken with her in a week I want her home now," she posted from her Twitter account. She also tweeted a number for people to contact in case they saw her grandmother.

Katherine Jackson also hadn't been in contact with her attorneys, who worked Sunday to learn more information about her whereabouts and why she had suddenly become incommunicado, including with her grandchildren.

"First of all, let's hope that this is all just a big misunderstanding and a totally benign situation," her attorney Perry Sanders Jr. said Sunday. "Assuming that she did actually leave on doctor's orders, no matter which doctor, it has certainly created an absolutely irregular situation whereby she has been out of contact with her grandchildren."

The mystery of Katherine Jackson's whereabouts was compounded by a recent visit from her son's former physician, Dr. Allan Metzger, who examined her July 14 after being brought to her home in Calabasas by someone close to the family, said Katherine Jackson's attorney Sandy Ribera.

The visit came one day before Katherine Jackson was scheduled to depart on an RV trip to the Southwest to watch her sons perform at concerts. The elder Jackson never made any of the shows and Metzger apparently told her not to take the trip, Ribera said.

Metzger is not Katherine Jackson's primary physician and her regular doctor wasn't aware of his house call until concerns about Katherine Jackson's whereabouts were raised, Ribera said.

A phone message left for Metzger at his Beverly Hills practice was not immediately returned Sunday.

Metzger treated Michael Jackson earlier in his career and met with the singer once in the months before he died. Defense attorneys for the physician convicted of killing the pop superstar called him as a witness to try to show the singer was attempting to obtain a powerful anesthetic for home use.

Despite being a defense witness, Metzger aided prosecutors by telling jurors that he refused Jackson's request and warned him of the risks.

Paris Jackson referenced Metzger's visit in a tweet early Sunday, writing, "the same doctor that testified on behalf of dr murray saying my father was a drug addict (a lie) is caring for my grandmother... just saying."

Conrad Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for the June 2009 propofol overdose death of Jackson at age 50.

The family drama unfolded days after it was revealed that some of Katherine Jackson's children had written a letter to the executors of Michael Jackson's estate, alleging his will, which left his fortune to his children, his mother and charity, was a fake.

The undated letter, signed by Janet, Randy, Tito, Rebbie and Jermaine Jackson, claimed Katherine Jackson was being manipulated by the executors, John Branca and John McClain, her health had been affected, and she suffered a mini-stroke.

The legitimacy of the letter was confirmed by Randy Jackson on Twitter, and Janet Jackson retweeted his post.

The estate has denied the accusations. Katherine Jackson obtained permission from a judge to probe the validity of her son's will, but never pursued the matter in court.

On Friday, Jermaine Jackson tweeted that his mother was resting on the orders of a doctor in Arizona.

"This is our mother and her health is paramount. We are not inventing or plotting anything," he posted. "We are following doctor's advice. Period.""

Katherine Jackson has been caring for Paris, Prince Michael and Blanket Jackson since their father's death. It was unclear who is taking care of the children in her absence.

I eat most of my food between eleven and four, which is really good for you. European style! And then I have two small meals: one before I do the show, around 6:30 p.m., and then again when I'm done, which is usually a salad, or sometimes I'll have a little wine if it's midnight and I really need to go to sleep. But that's the only time I'll ever drink, really.

Started off with a whole-wheat bagel with two poached eggs from Murray's. I love Murray's. My daughter is taking classes at FIT and there's a good one around there. In my neighborhood, I go to Pick a Bagel. I love the flat bagels there; if you special order, you can get a flat whole-wheat everything.

Lunch was salad, tomato soup, and a baguette from Bouchon. This is the first entry in a long line of salad, bread, and soup combos to come. My daughter ate the grilled cheese that came with the unbelievable tomato soup there. The only reason I don't eat that much cheese is because it's not good for the throat while performing, too much mucus.

Snacked on dried fruits and granola. Did the show. After the show, I had a salad from Hale and Hearty and their mushroom barley soup. Ended the night with a little peanut butter chocolate frozen yogurt from Holey Cream.

Saturday, July 14
When I wake up, I drink a cup of coffee immediately. Sometimes I'll eat sorbet for breakfast in the summer. I wake up warm because we don't have good AC ? plus sorbet soothes my throat. There's a lot of screaming in this role!

Went to yoga and made myself another breakfast ? a whole-wheat everything bagel, fruit salad, yogurt, and eggs. Such a fan of eggs, any kind. I'm starving when I perform. I very often eat at least three eggs in one sitting. I have low cholesterol ? I'm lucky!

Then I bought an egg-salad wrap. I ate half before the show, half during intermission. I burn a lot of calories when performing, and this show is particularly physical. Jim [Parsons], who I absolutely love, and I were saying how we feel so skinny and pale right now! And to be honest, I'm 47, and you don't want to be a skinny, skinny person at my age. You don't want your face to look too thin. There's a certain type of woman who's trying to hold on to that; it's not a good idea.

Postshow, I made the best arugula salad, tossed with just sea salt, olive oil, a little lemon juice, and a bit of Parmesan ? because I'm an arugula freak, if I haven't mentioned that. Then I had some really good ice pops from Trader Joe's ? had to cool my voice a little.

Sunday, July 15
I cook a lot of health food. That's kind of boring to my family ? baked tofu, chickpeas ... all those old Moosewood and Enchanted Broccoli recipes. So I made a tofu scramble with mushrooms and spinach, and ate that with fruit salad and yogurt.

Lunch was rice noodle edamame with baked tofu, then a cashew ginger biscotti, all from Chelsea Market. I absolutely love Chelsea Market! Snacked on dried peaches, yogurt, almonds before the show.

Had a veggie burger and onion strings on a salad from the Counter for dinner. My kids love it there. Then some mango sorbet.

Monday, July 16
Day off! I used to do a lot of stuff on days off, but this play is so physical that it makes me need to do something purely curative, like a massage and yoga class, so that's what I did. Then I hung out with my kids. Ideal Monday! I also love doing laundry; it takes you out of your head.

Ate some peanut butter on a rice cake and some watermelon. I cooked all afternoon, so there was a lot of eating and grazing ... baked tofu, chickpea and avocado salad, veggies and brown rice rolls from Health Nuts on the UWS, plus some white-bean soup and, later, veggie soup.

I also had my all-time favorite peanut butter cookie called Goochies. They're hard to find! When I find a place that has them, I buy, like, ten! I don't ever pig out on really crappy food. I would maybe do it at a place with homemade pasta. My husband is Italian, so I have an affinity for good pasta. But I have literally no taste for junk food. I ate it as a teenager, of course. But I went through a vegetarianism period in college, with grains and stuff, and I think you can train your body to not have a taste for unhealthy food.

Mushroom soup for lunch with a pumpernickel bagel stick and an arugula salad. I'm a soup freak, as you can see. Especially Thursday pea soup, with croutons, from any good diner. It's a very New York thing. The only place that serves it every day is Cozy Soup n Burger ? heaven. But for the mushroom soup, you really gotta go to Le Pain Quotidien. Soup is the perfect food for actors because when you're performing, you want something that's not going to sit in your stomach for a long time.

Then, because I had taken a yoga class and was really hungry all day, I had lentil soup ? ha-ha, I know ? for dinner. Also some Greek salad, roasted potatoes. Finished off the day with a little black licorice. Black licorice and dark chocolate are the only sweets I really have a taste for.

Mango sorbet for breakfast.

I buy barley already cooked. The best is a company that sells pre-cooked Jewish food at Morton Williams. They make very simple old Jewish food. I added veggies and tofu for lunch.

Pineapple, lemon, orange smoothie from Edible Arrangements outside the theater ? they actually make great smoothies! I brought the pea soup and an oatmeal muffin, which I baked from Dr. Oetker. I bake all things Dr. Oetker.

During the show, I snacked on arugula salad and artichoke pizza from Don Antonio's; it's this amazing, kinda elegant pizza but not fussy! Really wonderful food there ? very affordable, lovely waitstaff!

Came home and, just like I do every night, I throw my stuff down, seat myself at the kitchen counter, make food, and call my husband ? because he's often on location. [He's currently a director on Breaking Bad.] I gathered some tabbouleh and hummus with carrots and chomped in his ear, talking about the kids. And then I wondered, My goodness, how many hours of my chomping has he dealt with? But that's life!
